Small-school football a treat

It had been awhile since I’d been to a small school football game — nearly three years to be exact.

But there is something different about it.

At Connell on Friday was just about perfect — other than listening to the Yankees lose on my iPhone. Cold, crisp air, entire towns out to support their teams and good, hard-nosed football.

Covering Class 3A and 4A games is nice, because you get to sit in a nice, warm pressbox, but there is something to be said for driving out into the boonies to a packed stadium to watch some football.

The drive to Connell from Kennewick isn’t tremendously long, but it took me back to my days of driving all over West Texas to cover football games under the Friday Night Lights.

So, Tri-Cities football fans, if you get a chance in the next month to go see one of the smaller schools, do it. It’s a nice change of pace.
