Some recent updates on our pro athletes

Here’s a recent look at our Mid-Columbia sports professionals:

April 11 — Goalie Hope Solo (Richland) made six saves as the St. LouisAthletica shut out FC Gold Pride 2-0 in the WPS season opener.

April 19 — Closer Jake Muyco (Richland) collected his third save of theseason, pitching 2/3 of an inning, surrendering a hit and getting astrikeout, as the Chicago Cubs’ Double-A Tennessee team beat Carolina 2-1.

April 20 — Starter Jayson Miller (Richland) took the loss despite scatteringsix hits over five innings and giving up three unearned runs as the ArkansasTravellers -- the Anaheim Angels’ Double-A affiliate -- lost 4-3 to Frisco in TexasLeague play. Miller is 0-3, but he has a respectable 3.60 ERA.

April 21 — Starter Jeremy Bonderman (Pasco) scattered three hits, walkedtwo, surrendered three earned runs and struck out five over six innings asthe Detroit Tigers defeated the Angels 4-3. Bonderman started but did not figureinto the decision.

April 21 — Outfielder Nyjer Morgan (Walla Walla CC) was 2-for-5 and scored arun as the Washington Nationals defeated the Colorado Rockies6-4.

April 21 — Outfielder Jason Repko (Hanford) was 2-for-3 with an RBI tripleas Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate Rochester beat Buffalo 6-1.

April 22 — The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder Travis Buck (Richland) on the15-day disabled list retroactive to April 21 after he strained an obliquemuscle.

April 23 — Shawn O’Malley (Southridge) was placed on the disabled list byMontgomery because of an ailing shoulder. O’Malley hasn’t played in the field for the Tampa Rays affiliatesince April 11. He’s back in extended spring training in Floridato face live pitching.

April 24 — Morgan goes 3-for-7 with an RBI and stolen base, but theNationals lose 4-3 in 13 innings to the Dodgers.

April 24 — Repko goes 2-for-4 in a 6-3 Rochester loss to Syracuse.

April 25 — Muyco blows his save opportunity but earns the victory whenTennessee beats Birmingham 9-7.

April 27 — Morgan hits a triple, scores two runs and steals his sixth baseof the season as the Nationals beat the Cubs 3-1.
