Saw that Jeremy Bonderman started Wednesday and pitched two shutout innings — fanning three and giving up one hit — in the Tigers’ exhibition opener, a 7-6 win over Toronto.
Bonderman, from Pasco, is trying to come back from circulation problems in his right (pitching) shoulder. He told me in January he was 100 percent ready to go, and this is a good start.
-- Wa-Hi grad Eric O’Flaherty signed a one-year deal with Atlanta today, then pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in the Braves 9-5 exhibition win over the Mets.
-- Nyjer Morgan, the Washington Nationals’ center fielder who played early in this decade for Walla Walla Community College, has taken up surfing, of all things, when he’s not on the diamond.
-- Southridge High grad Travis Coulter has been declared academically ineligible for the WSU baseball team.
Coulter got hurt early last season as a senior, but the second baseman was planning on coming back for a redshirt senior season. Huge blow to the Cougars.
