Seattle Sounders FC has signed veteran MLS defender Marc Burch, who was selected last month in the league’s re-entry draft.
Burch, 27, played the five previous seasons with D.C. United. Last season, he appeared in 17 games, including 11 starts.
He played his college career at Maryland and was taken by Los Angeles in the second round of the 2006 SuperDraft. Later that season he was traded to Columbus, where he played under current Sounders coach Sigi Schmid. The Crew traded Burch to D.C. in 2007.
He has three goals and 10 assists as a professional.
“We are happy to have Marc signed,” Schmid said through a news release. “He will be a welcome addition to an already deep team.”
With Swedish defender Adam Johansson joining the club last week and projecting as the starting right back, Burch is expected to compete with Leo Gonzalez at left back.
Terms of Burch’s contract were not announced.
