CASA GRANDE, ARIZ. – Sounders FC concluded the Arizona portion of its preseason training Saturday with a 1-0 win over Chivas USA.
The Sounders’ goal was scored by second-year forward David Estrada.
In the 75th minute, Jonathan Prieto got past the Chivas defense and sent the ball to Miguel Montano at the far post. Montano laid it back to Estrada, who finished from in front of the goal.
“It was a play that was created off of energy,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said. “The guys worked hard. Jonathan Prieto makes a good late run into the box and gets on the end.

“The other people are getting into the box so they can get on the end of the cross, and the ball comes free to David Estrada, who continued to follow the play and he bangs it in, which is the key thing. Sometimes we give up on plays, and we don’t want to give up on plays.”
Goalkeepers Kasey Keller and Terry Boss each made key saves to preserve the victory.
The result moves Seattle to 2-1-1 in the preseason and capped two weeks of training in Arizona. Now, the team will enjoy a few days off before regrouping Wednesday and Thursday at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. After that, the club will shift to Florida for more training and more preseason games.
“It’s been a long two weeks, and I think the guys are ready to get back to Seattle,” Schmid said. “... It’ll be good to get back to their families and probably to get away from each other for a few days is also good. But our work is not completed in preseason and we will continue to work hard.”
