Southridge’s hopes for ending its futility in the Class 3A state soccer title game didn’t come to fruition Saturday.
Bellevue’s Jojo Harber scored in the third minute, and the lead stood up as the Wolverines beat the Suns 1-0 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.
It was the third year in a row that Southridge (20-3) fell in the championship game. The Suns lost to Edmonds-Woodway in 2014 and to Seattle Prep in 2015.
CLASS 4A: Hanford’s season ended with a fourth-place finish at state after the Falcons lost their final two games at Sparks Stadium.
Hanford (18-5), which fell 2-1 to West Valley (Yakima) in Friday night’s semifinal, faced Skyline on Saturday in the third/fourth-place game. The Spartans (15-1-4) prevailed 2-0, getting goals from Alexa Kirton in the 47th minute and Cameron Tingey in the 80th.
Hanford senior Kelsee Winston stopped eight shots on the weekend, including five against Skyline.
Jessica Maher scored for the Falcons in Friday night’s loss to West Valley. Hanford made its first state appearance since 2010.
