RICHLAND -- Jake Cook of Kennewick reeled in a two-day total of 10 fish for an aggregate 25.02 pounds to earn the 15-18-year-old division title at the 2009 Junior Bassmaster State Championship, which was held April 18-19 and based out of Columbia Point Marina in Richland.
"I gave it my best and kept going," said Cook, 17, who competed for the Tri-Cities River Runners but is also affiliated with the Columbia Basin Bass Club. "This is my last year doing this, and that's another reason (the win) felt so good. I wanted to get another step further and am working hard to make it this year."
Cook, along with 11-14 age division champion Dakota Jones of Mead, will return to the Columbia River on May 15 for the BASS Federation Nation Western Divisional.
Dillon Hollandsworth of Kennewick caught a total of 9.75 pounds to finish third in the 11-14 age division, and Justin Dodd, 17, also of Kennewick, earned Big Fish honors in the 15-18 age division for landing a 4.94-pound smallmouth.
