Tri-City Americans start strong, post big win over rival Spokane

Vladislav Lukin scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 7-3 victory Saturday night over the Spokane Chiefs before an announced crowd of 9,839 at Spokane Arena.

“I talked to him after the game,” Tri-City coach Mike Williamson said of Lukin. “He could have scored no points and still played unbelievable. He competed hard for pucks. He was a dominant player. It was nice to see.”

The win kept the Americans (22-25-2-0, 46 points) in the Western Hockey League playoff hunt, pulling within five points of the Chiefs (23-20-3-2, 51 points) in the Western Conference.

Mackenze Stewart opened the scoring at 7:35 of the first period. It was his first goal for Tri-City since coming over in a trade in December.

The score was tied at 2 and 3 before the Americans scored the last four goals of the game.

Parker Bowles started the string of goals with his 28th of the season, followed by Jordan Topping, Tyler Sandhu and Lukin.

Tri-City goalie Evan Sarthou finished with 28 saves as the Chiefs outshot the Americans 31-25.

“It was a night I think our guys realized the importance of the game,” Williamson said. “We made a big statement and responded after Spokane scored some timely goals. A lot of quality minutes out of our whole team.”
