Tri-City Americans

Americans’ losing streak stretches to 4

The Tri-City Americans dropped their season-high fourth consecutive game, falling 5-2 to the host Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday night.

Jordan Topping scored in the first period and Beau McCue in the second, but none of Tri-City’s other 50 shots got past Portland goaltender Adin Hill.

Hill’s effort helped Portland earn its fourth win in a row.

Topping’s power-play goal — his team-leading sixth of the season — gave the Americans a 1-0 lead at 14:21 of the first. Portland’s Rodrigo Abols scored 37 seconds later, and the Winterhawks (6-6-0-0, 12 points) took the lead for good with Colton Veloso’s goal at 5:57 of the second.

Dominic Turgeon scored twice for Portland. Tri-City goalie Evan Sarthou finished with 28 saves in the loss.

The Americans (4-8-1-0, 9 points) return home to play the Vancouver Giants at 7:05 p.m. Friday. They then will head to Vancouver for a game Sunday night.
