EVERETT -- Slowly but surely, the Tri-City Americans are making their move in the U.S. Division.
Brendan Shinnimin had two goals and Drew Owsley made 23 saves to lead the Americans to their third straight win Saturday night, beating the Everett Silvertips 3-1 at Comcast Arena.
Tri-City (22-11-1-1, 46 points) is seven points back of division-leading Portland and three behind second-place Spokane.
Tri-City, which had lost three of four meetings against Everett (16-18-2-3, 37 points) before Saturday, got on the board at 15:28 of the first as Sam Grist knocked the puck loose from Josh Winquist and fed Shinnimin up ice for his first goal of the night.
Shinnimin scored against at 8:57 of the second for a 2-0 lead before Kellan Tochkin beat Owsley at 16:05 to pull the Silvertips within a goal.
Tyler Schmidt finished the scoring for Tri-City, connecting on the power play with 51 seconds left in the game.
Kent Simpson finished with 26 saves for Everett.
The Tri-City-Spokane game that was stopped in the second period Friday because of unsafe playing conditions still has not been rescheduled. Americans general manager Bob Tory said a decision on a date will not be made before Monday.
