KENNEWICK -- The Tri-City Americans announced today that newly acquired defenseman Scott Maetche has retired. The 6-foot-2, 167-pound defenseman from Lacombe, Alberta, chose to retire rather than risk further injury.

Maetche, who was traded to Tri-City from Calgary on Oct. 29, appeared in one game for the Americans, but suffered his latest injury last week in Vancouver against the Giants.

Tri-City will retain its seventh-round pick in the 2009 Western Hockey League bantam draft.
