Kennewick Outlaws open Legion regional with 15-4 win

Tyler Detloff went 4-for-6 and drove in four runs, and Quentin LaFontaine was 5-for-6 and scored three times as the Kennewick Outlaws got off to a big start in the American Legion AAA Northwest Regional Tournament with a 15-4 win over the Boise Capitals at Powers Field in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Detloff’s hit a two-run triple and scored on Blake Loftus’ double as the Outlaws took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. They blew the game open with a six-spot in the sixth inning on four singles — including a two-run hit by Roger Ingram Jr. — two errors and a pair of walks.

“We hit the ball very well,” said Kennewick coach Nate Holdren. “Twenty-one hits in nay baseball game — you’re going to score a lot of runs. We pitched the ball well enough and played good defense behind them.”

Gerald Hein got the start and threw six innings of two-run ball.

The Outlaws move along in the double-elimination bracket to play either Montana or Wyoming at 6:30 p.m. today.
