Kennewick Outlaws stay alive at AAA state tourney

Gerald Hein allowed just one hit and struck out six over eight shutout innings, and Drew Townsend tossed a scoreless ninth to lift the Kennewick Outlaws to a 4-0 win over the Spokane Northstars at the AAA American Legion state tournament Sunday at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham.

The Outlaws scored four unearned runs off two errors and a wild pitch, getting two in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the eighth. Matt Rowell recorded the only RBI for Kennewick, a sacrifice fly in the eighth to bring home Garrett Dixon.

The Outlaws will play Lakeside in the semifinals at 6 p.m. today.

AA Legion state tournament: Kennewick Pepsi-Cola Dusters pitcher Asher Mancinelli kept Chehalis off balance for seven full innings, striking out five and walking just one in a 4-1 complete-game win over Chehalis at the state tournamdent in Olympia.

Nate Gee drove in two runs on two hits, and Logan Smith added two hits and a double for the Dusters, who will face Bellingham at 6 p.m. today at Olympia High School.

Walla Walla topped FM Sports 6-1 thanks to a complete-game masterpiece by Jacob Dunn. Augustus Calzaretta drove in two runs, and Kyle Gradwohl scored two runs for the Bruins, who will play Capital at 6 p.m. at Capital HS.

A Legion state tournament: The Richland Knights pounded out 10 hits in a 14-4 win over Whitman at the state tournament in Walla Walla, erasing a 4-2 first-inning deficit with an eight-run third-inning rally.

Gavin Brasker blasted a home run, stole two bases and scored three runs, and Trey Zorich went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and also pitched four scoreless innings to get the win for the Knights, who will face Walla Walla at 7 p.m. today at Walla Walla Community College.

Walla Walla beat Lake Stevens to advance.

The Kennewick Dusters got a dominating effort from pitchers Payton Flynn and Gavin Watters, who combined to allow just one hit in a 10-0 win over Lewis and Clark. Kohlter Trimble paced the offense with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.

Sandpoint ended Pasco’s dream of a state title with a 13-7 win, eliminating the Sun Devils.

Oregon City Invitational: The Southridge Bandits finished their season with their fourth tournament championship of the summer, beating NW Futures 5-1 in the Oregon City Invitational title game.

Southridge pitcher Brian Black went the distance, allowing just three hits and striking out five. Ryan Sanders doubled, had an RBI and scored twice.

The Bandits (34-9) beat Bellevue Honda 9-3 to reach the championship, getting four RBIs from Kyle Harvey and two more from Trevor Oldham.

“We had some good competition and faced some real good arms,” Southridge coach Tim Sanders said. “Our kids found a way to win again.”
