Southridge Bandits win Dwight Church Memorial championship

Ryan Sanders hit a go-ahead two-run double and tossed six strong innings to lead the Southridge Bandits to a 6-4 win over the Treasure Valley Stars in the championship game Sunday at the Dwight Church Memorial Classic at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.

The Bandits faced the Stars earlier in the day, losing 2-1 to finish pool play, but came back to win the title. Southridge trailed 2-0 after one inning but tied it up in the top of the third and exploded for four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead.

Sanders lauded third baseman Jake Harvey, second baseman Ethan Sanders and first baseman Matthew Oldham for executing a third-inning double play that got Southridge out of a jam

“We’ve played good baseball the last two weeks. It was good to play a quality opponent who pushed us a little,” Bandits coach Tim Sanders said. “The kids are grinding right now. I told them to enjoy the next day off, and then we head to Ontario for our next tournament.”
