Bandits to host Military All-Stars in charity baseball game

The Southridge Bandits will share the field with the U.S. Military All-Stars on Wednesday in a charity baseball game.

The Military All-Stars, a touring baseball team made up of active-duty military members, veterans and first responders, is on a Northwest tour that also is making a stop in Yakima to play the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak (today) and the Yakima Pepsi Beetles (Monday).

The Bandits and All-Stars will play at Southridge High School. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m.. Admission is $5. Donations also will be accepted and there will be a 50-50 raffle. Part of the money will be given to the All-Star to help pay for expenses, and the Bandits organization will make a donation to Homes for our Troops, which builds specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans.

An hour prior to the game there will be patriotic ceremonies led by Legion Post 34 to recognize local veterans, a color guard presentation and military appreciation festivities.

The U.S. Military All-Stars program was formed 25 years ago and has visited 45 states and 12 countries and has played all levels of competition, including the Boston Red Sox.

The All-Stars are schedule to make an appearance at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club of Benton and Franklin Counties.

BANDIT BASH: Brian Black hit a three-run triple and Ryan Sanders went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as the Southridge Bandits beat the Spokane Northstars 10-0 at Southridge High School.

The Bandits led just 1-0 through four innings, then broke the game open with nine runs over the fifth and sixth innings.

Matthew Oldham scattered two hits and struck out two in picking up the win.

The Senior Bandits also beat the Junior Bandits 12-6. Jake Harvey had four hits with a triple in the victory.

The Twin City Titans (5-7) won a pair of games, beating the Washington Warriors 7-4 and the Meridian Rangers 4-3 at LaPierre Field.

Against Meridian, Justin Larson had a two-run double and Austin Hardy drove in the winning run with a single in the top of the ninth inning.

In the other game, Meridian beat the Spokane Northstars 5-4 in eight innings.

POST FALLS TOURNAMENT: The Pepsi Cola Dusters (17-4) won two games to earn the a spot in today’s semifinals.

In the 16-team tourney, the Dusters earned the No. 1 seed in the semifinals, which will be played at 11:30 a.m. The championship game is at 2 p.m.

They opened with a 10-5 victory over Nothern Lakes as Brady Bush and Will Koskinen each drove in two runs.

Tanner Kirk pitched five innings of shutout ball as the Dusters beat Sandpoint 10-0. Nate Gee hit a two-run homer for the Dusters, while Logan Smith had a double, triple and two RBIs.

Nothern Lakes

All-State Series

TEAM ADAMS 9, TEAM BAKER 4: Southridge’s Nate Newbry hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning to help Team Adams to a win over Team Baker at Parker Faller Field in Yakima.

Team Adams will play Team St. Helens in the title game today at 1:35 p.m. Team St. Helens beat Team Rainier 3-1. Rainier will play Baker in the third-place game at 10:25 a.m.

Newbry went 2-for-5 for Team Adams, which led 8-3 after five innings.

Team Rainier, coached by Connell’s Tom Walker, got it’s lone run in the top of the eighth inning.

Hanford’s Jake Anderson and Southridge’s Jordan Dawson both pitched for Rainier.
