Senior (AAA) American Legion tournament back on track

The lighting issues at Shadle Park’s Jackson Field in Spokane have been fixed and it will be baseball as usual for the Washington Senior (AAA) American Legion state tournament come Saturday morning.

State chairman Don Hays said there was concern with one bank of lights at the field, so they moved the times of the game one hour to hopefully avoid having to turn the lights on. If lights are needed, the questionable bank of lights does work, but to what extent is unknown.

“We got everything finalized Wednesday,” Hays said. “We were looking at trying to move (the tournament), but trying to move a major tournament in four or five days is tough. You have Internet issues, umpires and volunteers to coordinate. Had we had known about this a month ago, it would have been a different story.”

The tournament runs Saturday through Wednesday, July 31. The top two teams will advance to Region 7.

The Central Washington League takes up five of the eight spots in the tournament, including the Kennewick Bandits, who open play at 9 a.m. vs. Centralia Sobe.

The Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak and Hanford Flames square off at noon, followed by the Yakima Beetles and Lakeside Recovery at 3 p.m. The Twin City Titans and Bellingham Post 7 finish off the first day of play at 6 p.m.
