Legion baseball: Saturday, July 21

Jacob Valdez didn’t need all that much support Saturday night as Twin City opened Senior American Legion super regional play at its own Bomber Field.

But the Titans pitcher still got a heaping dose of runs in an 11-3 win over Prep Sports of Kirkland.

Twin City jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings — Johnny Jansen’s two-run double in the first among the team’s big hits — and Valdez hung five no-hit innings on the scoreboard.

Valdez and reliever Levi Broeske combined on a two-hitter, taking the no-no into the eighth.

The win sends the Titans (44-16) to a 1 p.m. matchup today with the Spokane Bandits, who beat Aberdeen Baseball 10-3 in the other first-round game.

The winner earns the tourney’s No. 1 berth to state next week at Carlon Park in Selah. The loser will face the winner of this morning’s elimination game between Prep Sports and Aberdeen.
