Titans sweep Packers in CWL doubleheader
Twin City Titans coach Pete Marquez had a rather prudent perspective after his team wrapped up a mercy-shortened doubleheader sweep of the Apple Valley Packers on Wednesday at Bomber Field.
“You win a few and you lose a few,” Marquez said after the Titans improved to 19-4 overall and 9-2 in the Central Washington League.
But he shouldn’t expect to lose too many this season with a team like this.
Andrew Casteel drove in two runs in a 10-0 Game 1 win in five innings and then had four more RBIs in Game 2. His three-run first-inning home run gave Twin City a 4-0 lead in the nightcap en route to an 11-1 six-inning win.
In the opener, Levi Broeske tossed a three-hit shutout despite a 12-day layoff to attend a family reunion. He struck out five and walked two.
“Last night we played two games with no walks, but Boerske just came off the boat, so we’ve got to cut him a little slack,” Marquez said.
Jesse Houser sparked a four-run first in Game 2, emptying the bases with a three-run double while Titans pitcher Connor Moore allowed just one run on two hits.
“Our kids are playing pretty well right now. We had good, solid defense, and we pitched well,” Marquez said.Twin City’s next stop will be the Best of the West tournament, which begins today in Spokane.
