Flames hit, but can't pop Pak
RICHLAND -- Hanford had the superior firepower Tuesday, but Yakima Valley took advantage of timely errors to sweep the Flames 7-5 and 6-4 in a Central Washington League Senior Legion doubleheader at Waits Field.
In the opener, the Flames fell into a 6-0 hole before making a game of it late.
In the nightcap, Hanford had a 3-0 lead through three innings but the Pak came alive
"We outhit them both games, but they hit the ball harder in the first game and had three or four doubles," Hanford coach Tom DeWitz said. "Combine that with untimely walks. (Garrison) Becker and (Jake) Browne threw decently for us to get it done. Except for the walks, we had our chances.
"Second game, we had our chances, but committed four errors. That hurt us. (Pete) Hanson threw a decent game, and Trevor Jones came in and threw well.
"We just gotta play a little bit better."
The Flames outhhit the Pepsi Pak 16-11 over the course of the two games. Chief among the Hanford highlights was AJ Hoskins' home run in the nightcap.
