Last week, organizers of the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, exhibition that was set for Labor Day weekend was abruptly cancelled when they said they didn't have enough sponsors.
The announcement came as a total surprise.
"Totally. The guy was in Detroit talking to people," said H1 Chairman Sam Cole.
Mike Denslow of the Tri-City Water Follies was equally shocked.

"The group seems solid," Denslow said. “We'd offered our support. Our group was going to handle the rescue. Kathy Powell had talked to them about logistics."
The Idaho group said it would continue to seek sponsorship money so that it could have an actual race in 2013.
"And we'll be there to help out next year," Denslow said.
