Jean Theoret jumped to a commanding lead in the 2008 Columbia Cup final, but then U-37 went dead on the exit to turn 4, handing the victory to Steve David in the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto.
David held off an apparent challenge by Dave Bryant in the U-10 Miss Ahern Rentals to take the victory. Bryant was apparently second, but he was ruled to have jumped the gun and finished fifth after serving a one-lap penalty.
Dave Villwock appeared to finish in third in the Miss E-Lam Plus, but he was assessed a one-lap penalty for encroachment at the start and finished in sixth.
For the first lap, it was a four-boat battle between David, Theoret, Bryant and Villwock in lanes 1-4. As soon as Villwock got word of his penalty, he backed off and settled into fourth.

By that time, Theoret had broken away from David and Bryant. However, coming out of the final turn on lap three, the U-37 took a big bounce and went dead. The boat hasn’t been towed back in yet, but from the sound it made when it went dead, my guess is that the boat lost all or part of a propeller.
We’re still waiting for official results, but after the penalties cleared, Bryan Perkins ended up with second place, followed by the FormulaBoats.com entries of Jeff Bernard and Jimmy Shane.
Bryant was fifth, and Villwock was sixth.
Theoret did not finish.
There will be more information posted as it becomes final and official.
