Twin City Titans, Kennewick Outlaws to clash in AAA state Legion tourney

The Twin City Titans and Kennewick Outlaws will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Yakima bracket final of the American Legion AAA state tournament.

The Outlaws advanced with Tuesday night’s 16-3, seven-inning win over the Yakima Beetles.

Kennewick knocked out 18 hits, led by Trent Sellers’ 5-for-5 performance. Sellers had a double and a triple, scored four runs and finished with three RBIs.

Andrew Townsend went the distance on the mound, pitching a four-hitter.

The Titans kept their state championship hopes alive Monday, beating Lower Columbia 11-3.

The Titans ran away with the game courtesy of a five-run sixth inning. Logan Smith, Jason Webb and Ryan Dearing all had run-scoring hits in the frame.

Kaden Enriquez tossed a scoreless four innings of relief to close out the game for Twin City.

Tuesday, Austin Haughton took the mound for the Titans and delivered in a 3-2 win against Lakeside Recovery.

Haughton went eight innings and allowed one unearned run while allowing five hits.

With the score 1-1 going into the ninth, Mike Jones drove in the go-ahead run for Twin City with a sacrifice fly, and Smith hit what turned out to be the winning RBI single. Lakeside scored once in the bottom of the inning.

▪ Josh Ellis and Cooper Shelby pitched a couple of gems against Asotin County on Monday and the Burlington Sox on Tuesday, helping the Richland Knights advance to the semifinals of the American Legion AA state tournament at Burlington-Edison High School.

In the Knights’ final round of pool play, Ellis went the distance and allowed a hit and three walks to give Richland a 7-1 win over Asotin County. Josh Mendoza went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Christian Berry had two hits and a pair of RBIs, and he scored twice.

In the state quarterfinal, Shelby hurled five innings of two-run ball to lift the Knights to a 5-2 victory over Burlington. Casey Perryman went 1-for-2 and scored a pair of runs for Richland.

The Knights will take on the winner of the Mt. Spokane-Linden game at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
