In nine seasons of minor league baseball, Shawn O’Malley has worn uniforms for 10 different teams.
Looks like No. 11 will be a nice one.
The former Southridge High star got the call of his life Monday when he added to the Los Angeles Angels’ 40-man roster for their pennant push.
O’Malley was hitting .330 (105-for-318) playing shortstop for the Triple-A Salt Lake City Bees in the Pacific Coast League. He played for the Bees on Monday in their 10-4 loss to El Paso Chihuahuas, going 1-for-4. He’ll join the Angels today as they open a two-game series in Houston.
It’s been a big summer for O’Malley, who played in the Triple-A All-Star Game in July, less than a season after being released by the Tampa Bay Rays, who drafted him straight out of high school in 2006.
