Sharp leads after first round of Tri-City Open

Brady Sharp fired a 32 on the back nine to finish with a 67 for the first-day lead in the professional division in the Golf Universe Tri-City Open at Canyon Lakes.

Sharp had birdies on 11, 13, 15, 16 and 18.

He holds a 4-stroke lead over Russell Grove.

Kurt Simmons leads the first Amateur Division with a 69, with Mike Smithee, Cal Speer and Nick Atkin in second with 71s.

Jeff Hardman and Mark Olenius are tied for the lead in the second Amateur Division at 75.

The final round of the tournament begins at 1 p.m. today with a shotgun start.
