Lisa Bratton of Richland and Natilee Ruiz of Othello both competed in the 200-meter backstroke at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships in Indianapolis on Wednesday, but neither made it out of the preliminary rounds.
Bratton, seeded 12th headed into the competition, finished 27th overall with a time of 2 minutes, 16.67 seconds — well off her personal best of 2:13.57. Ruiz finished 32nd overall with a time of 2:17.41.
Megan Romano, 21, of Athens, Ga., topped the field with a time of 2:12.73.
Bratton and Ruiz, who both swim for the Tri-City Channel Cats, will each compete in the 100 backstroke on Friday and the 200 individual medley on Saturday. Bratton also will swim the 400 IM today, while Ruiz is entered in the 200 freestyle on Friday.

Bratton will be a junior at Delta High School this fall, and Ruiz will attend San Diego State University.
