West Richland's Marcum leads state junior golf championship

West Richland’s Jeffrey Marcum shot a 72 to lead the boys 16-17 division in the first round of the Washington Junior Golf Association Championship on Wednesday at Fairwood Golf and Country Club in Renton.

Kennewick’s Nicholaus Mandell shot a 77, and Walla Walla’s Ryan Baumgart and Richland’s Drew McCullough tied at 79.

Also making a state run are Richland’s Eric Dahl (81), Hunter Thompson (82) and Zack Betzsold (83).

Meanwhile, DuPont’s Cherokee Kim shot a 75 to lead the girls 16-17 field at Meridian Valley in Kent. Richland’s Taylor Kain-Godoy shot an 86, and Pasco’s Kelsey Aiello shot an 88.

Pacific Coast Amateur: Richland’s Alex Moore and Kennewick’s Gregg LaVoie finished the second round tied for 11th place with totals of 148 at the par-72 Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.

LaVoie sat in 12th after the first day with a 75. Moore slid down the leaderboard after opening with a 73 to land in fourth place.

Moore and LaVoie will tee off at noon today in the four-round no-cut tournament.
