Youth baseball: Richland National 12s open big

Little LeagueLittle League 12s:

Dillon Michalson got Richland National off to a great start at the Little League 12-year-old state tournament in Walla Walla, homering to open the game en route to a 9-4 win over Central Vancouver on Saturday.

Gaven Brasker added a three-run shot during a six-run second inning, and Kyle Corrigan’s RBI double gave Richland a 9-1 lead after four innings.

Charley Bonham made a key defensive play in right field as CV was rallying for three runs in the fifth. Josh Mendoza struck out the side to close the game in the sixth.

Richland plays Mill Creek at 10:30 a.m. today.

Babe Ruth 14U: Gerald Hein went 3-for-3 and Brandon Searls also had a hit, but Kennewick couldn’t keep pace with Twin Cities in a 12-2 loss at the Southern Washington state tournament in Aberdeen.

Kennewick is back in action today, taking on Mount St. Helens at 6 p.m. in pool play.
