The Othello boys soccer team suffered a devastating 2-1 double-overtime defeat Wed-nesday at Cheney in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament.
With just one minute left until a shootout, the Huskies turned the ball over in their half and Forrester Seipt capitalized scoring to send Cheney to the second round.
"It was a critical mistake at a critical time," Othello coach Bernie Garza said. "We are a much better team, we just couldn't finish. That one mistake we made in overtime, we paid for it."
The Huskies (16-4) had tied the game on a Hugo Martinez goal in the 78th minute. Martinez, a freshman, was making his second career start when he scored off a Jorge Campos direct kick.
"We pushed so hard in the second half," Garza said. "We had a great season. Sixteen-and-4 is really impressive."
Martel Saucedo made five saves in the loss.
