* 1993: Hanford's Kathy Kyle grabbed five rebounds and scored three points in 18 minutes for Northwest Nazarene in a 70-66 loss to Linfield.

* 1961: University of Washington football coach Jim Owens, after his team defeated top-ranked Minnesota 17-7 in the Rose Bowl, told Herald sports editor Charlie Van Sickel, "If you beat the champion, that should make you champion, shouldn't it?"

* 1954: Leon Parnell's three free throws in overtime helped the Kennewick boys basketball team pull away to defeat Marquette of Yakima 53-48. Jim Davis led Kennewick with 16 points, while Lynn Gillespie added 10.
