150 to compete in Richland's Aquaman race

RICHLAND -- A field of 150 athletes will test their mettle today in the Aquaman Duathlon, starting at 6 p.m. at Howard Amon Park in Richland.

The Three Rivers Road Runners event consists of a two-mile run, a half-mile river swim and a three-mile run. The course is scheduled for closure at 7:30 p.m.

Competitors must be pre-registered and can pick up information packets starting at 4 p.m. There is also a mandatory prerace meeting at 5:30 p.m.

-- Registration is closed,but you can cheer on all 200 competitors in the Titanium Man Jr. Triathlon for ages 7-15, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Howard Amon Park in Richland.

Event distances are determined by age group. Athletes ages 7-12 will swim 250 yards, bike 4 1/2 miles and run one mile. Athletes ages 13-15 must do a 500-yard swim, nine-mile bike and two-mile run.

Preregistered athletes can pick up their information packets starting at 7 a.m., and they must attend a prerace meeting at 8:30 a.m.
