* 1998 -- Richland High graduate Jeremy Eaton scored a career-high 25 points to help lead Gonzaga University over No. 22 Washington 82-71 in men's basketball play in Spokane.
* 1988 -- Jeff Bumgarner, a 1985 Hanford High graduate who was selected 13th overall in baseball's 1985 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins, was part of a five-player trade with the New York Mets. The deal sent Bumgarner to the Mets. Among those players headed to the Twins were second baseman Wally Backman. Backman would later manager the Tri-City Posse.
* 1971 -- Embee Shaw scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Larry Holloway added 13 points as the Columbia Basin College men's basketball team defeated visiting Big Bend 94-63 at Pasco High School.
* 1967 -- Kennewick's Mark "Young Spanky" Morantes earned a first-round TKO over Clarkston's Roger Stewart in a boxing match in Lewiston, Idaho. It was Morantes' first amateur boxing match, and the Kennewick fighter gave up 12 pounds to the 150-pound Stewart.
