SAN DIEGO -- After a close call in the semifinals, the Three Rivers U-17 club team came up just short in the championship match of the Surf Cup on Sunday in San Diego.
The Three Rivers boys lost 2-1 to South Bay Force Blue of California after a shootout.
Gerardo Macias scored the only goal in regulation for the Tri-Cities club, which was outscored 4-3 in the shootout.
Earlier, Three Rivers topped another California club, Cypress FC, 3-2 when Conner Mertens booted in the winner with 3 minutes left in the contest after Jake Zoulek connected twice earlier in the game.

Coach Mike Pardini gave a nod to inside midfielder Keaton Hale for big-time play throughout the tournament.
