KENNEWICK -- An estimated 3,300 participants braved sub-freezing temperatures, snow and ice Thursday morning at Columbia Park in Kennewick to take part in the annual Turkey Trot.
The record-breaking turnout eclipsed last year's record showing of about 3,000 people. The Trot has grown each year since its inception in 2004, when 600 people showed up for the inaugural event.
Andrew Gonzales, a 20-year-old Southridge graduate and Washington State student, was the overall 5K male winner for the third consecutive year.
Michelle Fletcher, a 15-year-old Kamiakin sophomore, was the top 5K female finisher.
No times were announced.
According to early estimates, the event raised more than $55,000 to support local Red Cross services, including Disaster Services, Health and Safety Services and Service to Armed Forces.
