Soccer: Tri-City standouts lead No. 1 St. Rose to win

The College of Saint Rose scored in the 11th minute to defeat the University of Bridgeport 1-0 in a NCAA Division II tournament second-round match.

The Golden Knights advanced to their fifth consecutive regional championship game (round of 16), where they will face C.W. Post on Friday on the campus of West Chester University (Pa).

The Golden Knights (22-0-0), who have been ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II Poll for the last three-fourths of the season, outshot the Purple Knights (14-4-2) by a 26-4 margin and generated six corner kicks without yielding any.

Kamiakin grad Meagan McKinney and Southridge grad La'Quilla Upton both played in the defensive backfield for St. Rose.

Washington upsets Portland: Visiting Washington pulled one of the biggest upsets in school history and in this season's NCAA tournament by defeating the No. 2 overall seed Portland 10-9 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie in regulation and two overtime periods in the second round Sunday.

The Huskies improved to 12-8-2 while Portland ended the season at 18-1-2.

UW will advance to the round of 16 for the third time and first since 2004.

Washington defeated Oklahoma 4-0 on Friday in the first round.
