3A, 2A state basketball pairings announced

TACOMA -- The WIAA announced the state basketball schedules Sunday for the 3A and 2A state basketball tournaments beginning Wednesday, and two Mid-Columbia teams familiar with playoff hoops earned trips.

The seventh-ranked Prosser girls will try to improve on last year's sixth-place finish at the 2A state tournament.

The Mustangs (19-3), who will make their ninth state appearance, will face Kingston at 5:30 p.m. in the first round Wednesday at the SunDome in Yakima.

The Grandview boys (16-8) will meet fifth-ranked Fife (20-2) at 10:30 a.m. in the first round of the 2A draw. It will be the 12th state appearance for the Greyhounds, who have three state titles.

The 3A boys and girls tournaments begin Wednesday at the Tacoma Dome.
