Jaguars owner Shad Khan expects Jalen Ramsey to play against Saints

After having a sit down with Jalen Ramsey a few days ago, Jaguars owner Shad Khan said he expects the All-Pro cornerback to play this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints

During a visit to Wall Street in New York on Thursday, Khan told "The Street," a financial website, that he had a heart-to-heart conversation with Ramsey and said he thinks they will be able to come to a solution that makes sense for all.

"I think he's going to be playing this week, so hopefully you will tune in to the Saints game," Khan said. "But I think it's something that you got to balance, what's good for the team and what the individual wishes might be. I think we will be able to kind of formulate here. I met him a couple of days ago. I had a heart to heart, and I think we will be able to come to whatever makes sense for all."

Jaguars defensive coordinator Todd Wash is preparing for both scenarios, just like last week, whether Ramsey plays or not. Ramsey has missed the past two games. He missed seven consecutive practices before he participated Wednesday. Ramsey said on the "17 Weeks podcast" from Uninterrupted and Sirius XM that he's had back issues over his entire NFL career.

"I was just informed (by Khan's comments), but if Jalen does play, obviously, we have a plan for him to play," Wash said before Thursday's practice. "It was great to see him out on the grass yesterday, out there communicating with him teammates and that kind of stuff. I love the energy that he brings to practice. But at the same time, if he doesn't play, I think it's our job as coaches, we have to be able to develop a plan for him if he doesn't play."

Second-year pro Tre Herndon has started in place of Ramsey against Denver and Carolina. In last week's 34-27 loss to the Panthers, Herndon had five tackles but zero pass breakups. Quarterback Kyle Allen went 17-of-30 passing for 181 yards. But the Panthers churned out 285 yards behind Christian McCaffrey, who had 237 yards from scrimmage.
