Dust Devils rattle bats in 13-2 victory
Buddy Reed had three hits and swiped two bags, and the Tri-City bats came alive as the Dust Devils beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 13-2 Tuesday at Gesa Stadium for their first double-digit victory of the season.
Reed hit a triple into the right-field corner in the bottom of the first to score lead-off batter Nate Easley, then was driven in on a ground ball out by Kyle Overstreet to give the Dust Devils (10-16 second half) a 1-0 lead. Reed would go on to drive in two of the Dust Devils’ runs and score four times, while Overstreet led the team in RBIs (three) without recording a hit.
The Volcanoes (11-15) couldn’t hold Tri-City to a scoreless inning until the sixth, which was preceeded by a four-run fourth and a five-run fifth.
Both Easley and Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two doubles and drove in two runs for the Dust Devils.
The 6-4 lefty Will Headean (4-4) had swing-and-miss stuff going as the Tri-City starter gave up just five hits over six scoreless innings and struck out seven Volcanoes to pick up the win.
The rubber match of the five-game series begins at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Tri-City will have an off-day Thursday before hitting the road for three games against the Spokane Indians and five against the Eugene Emeralds.
