Dust Devils quiet Spokane bats for 3-0 win
A quartet of Tri-City arms limited Spokane to a single base hit, and the Dust Devils managed to wring three runs from their four hits in a 3-0 victory over the host Indians in Northwest League baseball Thursday night at Avista Stadium.
Joey Lucchesi started and gave up a single to the second hitter he faced. He allowed just a walk for the remainder of his three innings. Braxton Lorenzini (2-2) came on and threw four innings of spotless relief, followed by Evan Miller and Diomar Lopez for an inning each.
The Tri-City hitters, meanwhile, did their damage early. G.K. Young singled in Nate Easley in the first inning to salvage a run after a double play put a damper on a promising inning. In the third, back-to-back singles to start the inning again set the table for Young. His two-out grounder to short was mishandled, allowing Josh Magee and Easley to come around on the play.
The win kept the Dust Devils (20-21) from being swept by the Indians (21-20) as they headed to Vancouver, British Columbia, on Friday to start a three-game series leading into Tuesday’s All-Star Game between the Northwest and Pioneer leagues in Ogden, Utah.
The Dust Devils will be off Monday through Wednesday for the All-Star break before resuming play Aug. 4 at home against Boise.
