Three Dust Devils make NWL All-Star team
The Northwest League announced the roster for its All-Star game against the Pioneer League’s best, and three Dust Devils made the grade for the Aug. 2 contest in Ogden, Utah.
Tri-City shortstop Baker is the team’s lone position player on the roster, and right-handers Emmanuel Ramirez and Diomar Lopez will serve on the NWL’s pitching staff.
Through his first 36 professional games, former University of Washington player Baker ranks in the top three for the Dust Devils in batting average (.292), on-base percentage (.391) and slugging percentage (.400). He is also tied for the team lead with eight doubles and two home runs, and has a .952 fielding percentage.
Ramirez has been the Dust Devils’ ace and most consistent arm in their starting rotation this season. As a result, he is at or near the top of the league in wins (4-1 record), ERA (2.62), innings pitched (44 2/3) and strikeouts (42) through his first eight starts of the season.
In a bullpen filled with some unbelievable talent, Lopez has established himself as the Dust Devils’ most capable arm in high-leverage situations. He is 4-0 with a 2.42 ERA and has thrown 26 innings over 10 appearances this season.
Several Seattle Mariners prospects are represented on the NWL All-Star squad.
Everett AquaSox pitchers Ljay Newsome and Brandon Miller, shortstop Donnie Walton and outfielder Eric Filia were all named to the team after some stellar play in the first half of the season.
Mariners first-round draft pick Kyle Lewis suffered a season-ending knee injury after a plate collision against the Dust Devils, but he was ceremoniously named to the NWL All-Star team after batting .299 with eight doubles and three home runs in his first 30 professional games.
