NWL: Tri-City Dust Devils come up empty against Hillsboro Hops
The Tri-City Dust Devils had a quiet night at the plate in a 9-1 loss Wednesday to the host Hillsboro Hops at Ron Tonkin Field.
Despite the loss, Tri-City remains atop the Northwest League North at 12-8, one game up on Everett (11-9). The Hops improved to 9-11 and are second in the South standings.
The Dust Devils managed seven hits, but failed to push runs across the plate, leaving 13 men stranded.
Hillsboro jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, then tacked on two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Dust Devils looked to make a little noise in the second inning, loading the bases with one out with a single by Chris Mattison, a walk by Luis Asuncion and a single to center field by Westhers Magdaleno.
Josh Magee struck out swinging, and Carlos Sosa struck out looking to end the threat.
Tri-City scored one run in the seventh as Sosa scored in a single to center field by Boomer White. With Buddy Reed on third and White at second base, the Devils Devils failed to add to their run count as Wilfri De La Cruz grounded out to shortstop.
Josh Anderson and Marcus Wilson each drove in two runs for the Hops, while Justin Chigbogu hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
The Devils Devils and Hops continue their five-game series Thursday.
