Dust Devils’ offense shows up in 9-0 victory over Hops

The offense that eluded the Tri-City Dust Devils the past couple of games returned Tuesday night.

Kyle Overstreet had three of the Dust Devils’ 13 hits in their 9-0 Northwest League victory over the host Hillsboro Hops.

Overstreet finished a home run short of the cycle, while Nate Easley drove in three runs for Tri-City, which lost 8-0 to Everett on Sunday and 7-3 to Hillsboro on Monday.

The Dust Devils (12-7), who recorded their first shutout of the season, have a two-game lead over Everett and Vancouver in the NWL North division.

Easley walked to start the game and reached third on Buddy Reed’s single to right. He put Tri-City on the board when Chris Baker grounded into a double play — one of three on the night for the Dust Devils.

Tri-City scored two runs in each of the next three innings. Easley’s two-run, two-out homer to left gave the Dust Devils a 7-0 lead in the fourth.

Taylor Kohlwey’s two-out RBI double in the fifth chased Hillsboro starter Taylor Wright (0-3), who was charged with eight runs — all earned — and 10 hits.

Wright’s replacement, Tucker Ward, gave up a leadoff single in the sixth to Jose Savinon, who then advanced to third on two consecutive wild pitches. He scored on Carlos Sosa’s grounder for the game’s final run.

Tri-City right-hander Jordan Guerrero (2-1) struck out two and gave up five hits over the first five innings. Diomar Lopez didn’t allow a hit in the sixth and seventh innings, and David Bednar gave up one hit and struck out three in the final two innings.

The Dust Devils continue their series against the Hops (8-11) at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Ron Tonkin Field.
