White paces Tri-City bats in 8-6 win
A five-run, five-hit fourth inning propelled the Tri-City Dust Devils to an 8-6 victory over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes on Thursday night in their first road game of the season.
After a leadoff strikeout to begin the fourth, the Dust Devils (4-3) managed to get the next seven batters on base. They chased Salem-Keizer starting pitcher Hengerber Medina (0-1) after just 3 1/3 innings.
Playing in his third career game, Boomer White dealt the killing blow to Medina with a three-run double to left. The Texas A&M product went 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs, and is now batting .385.
Right-handers Will Stillman (1-0) and Aaron Cressley shut the door from the seventh inning on. The duo didn’t allow a runner to reach base in their combined three innings of relief.
Stillman struck out two over two innings to earn his first career win, and Cressley shut down the Volcanoes (4-3) in order in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season.
The Dust Devils and Volcanoes will play the second part of their five-game series at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
