The Tri-City Dust Devils dropped the rubber match of a three-game Northwest League road series against the Spokane Indians, falling 7-5 on Tuesday night at Avista Stadium.
With the loss, the Dust Devils (6-7) ended up in a second-place tie with the Indians and Vancouver Canadians in the North Division.
Tri-City went ahead three times during the game, but it couldn’t get a lead to stick.
The Dust Devils broke a scoreless tie in the second on A.J. Kennedy’s one-out RBI double.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Leon Byrd singled in the tying run for Spokane. Byrd took second base on a wild pitch by Tri-City starter Walker Lockett and scored the go-ahead run on a double by Dylan Moore.
Tri-City and Spokane each scored two runs in the fifth. The Dust Devils went ahead 5-4 in the sixth thanks to Justin Pacchioli’s first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left.
In the bottom of the sixth, Darius Day hit a two-run single, and Ti’Quan Forbes came home on a wild pitch from reliever Elvin Liriano to give Spokane a 7-5 lead.
Liriano (3-1), who pitched one inning, took the loss. He allowed two hits and struck out three batters.
Spokane reliever Omarlin Lopez (2-2) gave up Pacchioli’s homer but was credited with the win, giving up two hits in 1 1/3 innings.
The Dust Devils will return home to Gesa Stadium tonight to begin a five-game series against the Boise Hawks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
