NWL: Soriano's errors costly in Dust Devils' loss

The Tri-City Dust Devils couldn’t overcome a five-run deficit Saturday, falling 5-2 to the host Vancouver Canadians in Northwest League action.

A rough inning for shortstop Wilson Soriano led to a pair of unearned runs in the second, as Soriano made two errors.

Leadoff batter Brenden Kalfus reached on a Soriano fielding error, then after a pair of walks to load the bases, Nico Taylor singled in a run. David Harris reached on a run-scoring fielder’s choice, but Soriano threw the ball away attempting to turn a double play, allowing another run to score.

The Dust Devils did attempt a rally in the sixth as Michael Tauchman and Sean Dwyer hit back-to-back singles. Ben Waldrip then hit a sacrifice fly and Chris O’Dowd singled home another run.

Tri-City eventually had second and third with one out, but Soriano flew out and Patrick Hutcheson struck out to end the threat.
