The Tri-City Dust Devils wasted an impressive pitching performance by starter Tyler Gagnon on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, going scoreless in a 1-0 loss to host Boise.
Carlos Escobar doubled to lead off the bottom of the third for the Hawks and then scored on a two-out single by Jeimer Candelario for the only run of the game.
Gagnon (1-2) scattered six hits and allowed just one run over six innings, but he still took the loss. Boise’s Tayler Scott (3-1) earned the win with five scoreless innings.
Miguel De Leon drew a one-out walk for Tri-City in the ninth inning and stole second base to get in scoring position. But Boise closer Eduardo Orozco struck out Francisco Sosa and Derek Jones to end the game.
The Dust Devils (1-4 second half) fell two games behind first-place Boise (3-2) and Yakima (3-2).
