The Tri-City Dust Devils finally got away from one-run games, but not in the way they had hoped.
After a week of close games, the Dust Devils were pounded 8-3 on Friday by the Boise Hawks at Memorial Stadium.
Willson Contreras hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Hawks an early lead, as they banged out 13 hits.
Tri-City starter Shane Broyles had his 152⁄3-inning scoreless streak snapped, as Contreras hit a two-strike pitch over the right-field wall for an early 3-0 lead.
Boise eventually went ahead 4-0 before Tri-City showed some life in the fourth. Miguel De Leon walked leading off, and Francisco Sosa followed with a single. Derek Jones then hit a ground-rule double to right field, scoring De Leon.
After Drew Beuerlein struck out, Robert De La Cruz hit an RBI groundout to short, and Yafistel Roja singled in another run to make it 4-3.
But that was all the scoring Tri-City would do, as Boise tacked on one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the eighth.
Sosa finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base, while De La Cruz added a double. Gioskar Amaya, Marco Hernandez, Daniel Vogelbach, Trey Martin and Xavier Batista all had two hits apiece for Boise.
Broyles (3-1) allowed five runs on six hits in 42⁄3, striking out four and walking one. Willengton Cruz (2-4) earned the victory.
