Francisco Sosa homered and drove in five runs, the starter Ben Hughes recovered from a rough first two innings to lead the Tri-City Dust Devils to a 7-5 win over the Boise Hawks on Monday night at Gesa Stadium.
Sosa's three-run homer was part of a four-run rally in the fifth inning that pulled the Dust Devils within 5-4. After Tri-City tied the score in the sixth, Sosa got another chance to be the man in the middle of the offense when he stepped to the plate in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and looped a single to left for what proved to be the winning runs.
Hughes wound up throwing six innings, setting down 14 of the last 15 batters he faced. Chris Dennis came on to throw two scoreless innings to get the win, and then William Rankin slammed the door shut in the ninth for his Northwest League-leading fifth save.
