Tri-City Dust Devils

Dust Devil offense struggles in Everett as playoff race tightens

Anjul Hernandez scattered five hits over his five-inning start as the Tri-City Dust Devils went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in their 4-1 loss to the AquaSox on Monday night in the opener of a four-game set in Everett.

Bryant Aragon went 2-for-3 and scored Tri-City’s only run — on a seventh-inning double by Jalen Washington — to lead the team at the plate. Will Stillman (1-3) surrendered six hits and gave up an unearned run in the third and two earned runs in the fourth — a two-run blast by Seattle Mariners international prospect Chris Torres — to take the loss for the Dust Devils (12-9 second half, 32-27 overall).

Tri-City now trails the first-half Northwest League North Division champion Vancouver Canadians (13-8, 27-32) by a game in the second-half standings, and leads Everett (11-10, 28-31) and the Spokane Indians by a game each. If Vancouver wins the second-half title, overall record will determine the second North Division playoff berth, a race in which Tri-City holds a four-game advantage over Everett.
