Moses Lake captures 4A district wrestling

MOSES LAKE -- After trailing Richland by half a point after the first day of the CBBN 4A district tournament, host Moses Lake took control Saturday with six champions and 14 wrestlers advancing to next weekend's regionals at Ferris High in Spokane.

The Bombers finished second, a distant 53 1/2 points behind the Chiefs and two points ahead of third-place Chiawana.

"We had three qualifiers for regionals last year," said Riverhawks coach Jack Anderson. "This year we have 10 plus three alternates.

"We did very well today."

Richland won titles at three weights: Josh Andrew at 112, Dustin Utecht at 135 and Brady Simpson at 285 after defending state champion Kabe Fluaitt of Moses Lake took an injury default in the final. The Bombers will send 10 to regionals.

Brandon Gonzalez at 125 and Nick Garcia at 130 won titles for Chiawana. However, the Riverhawks lost state senior state veteran Adam Sauceda, a third seed who injury defaulted to sixth place after losing in the semifinals.

Moses Lake's titles came from Beau Gleed (119), Herson Rodriguez (140), Nico Moreno (145), Jonathan Perales (160), Derek Fredericksen (189) and Brian Chamberlain (215).
