Johnson strikes twice in Southridge win

KENNEWICK -- Heather Johnson scored twice and Southridge's defense put the clamps on Pasco in a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Southridge High.

The victory pushed the Suns, who placed third in state last fall, to 2-0 in the CBBN 3A and 4-0 overall.

Johnson, the 3A player of the year as a junior, scored in the 30th minute and again in the 79th as Southridge outshot Pasco 15-2.

"I don't think we played as well as we're capable of playing, but we did play better in the second half," said Suns coach Greg Sambrano, giving a nod to defenders Erin Wallace and Emma Sanders.

Ellie Heiden scored three goals and had three assists to lead Kamiakin past Kennewick in CBBN 3A play at Lampson Stadium. Megan Beauchene added a goal and three assists for the Braves (2-0, 3-1).

Cari Exarhos had two goals and two assists to help the host Falcons move to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the CBBN 3A.

Hanford also got a strong offensive showing from Deanna Quadrel and Bret Baysinger, who each had a goal and an assist.

Susana Arreola scored in the 32nd minutes for the Grizzlies' lone goal. Sunnyside goalie Liz Escobar made nine saves against 27 shots.

Lexi Miller, Lexi Ellingsen, Courtney Ebberson and Hannah Bosch each scored in the shootout to lead the host Riverhawks (3-2 overall, 2-0 CBBN 4A). Miller had opened the scoring in the ninth minute of regulation.

Oryian Matheny scored a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes to get the host Greyhounds (0-2-1 overall) well on their way to their first win, but a second-half letdown allowed the Wolves to pull even in the nonleague match.
